I think these images were likely inspired by Sontag's claim that she loves photography but avoids it because she's afraid she will become addicted to it. That always felt disingenuous to me, and I suppose it reminded me of people who avoid cameras because they don't like the way they look in pictures for whatever reason. I think Sontag likely recongnized the power of photography in a visual culture, but that the control it offered was empty and superficial.
